Ukrainian Embroidery by Region: Introducing the Ukraine Cities Patch Collection

Ukrainian embroidery is more than decoration. For centuries, vyshyvanka patterns have carried the history, identity, and symbolism of each region of Ukraine. Colors, stitches, and motifs were passed down through generations, turning embroidery into a visual language of culture and protection.

At New Vyshyvanka, we created the Ukraine Cities Patch Collection to celebrate these traditions and keep them visible.

Each embroidered patch represents a Ukrainian city and draws inspiration from the historic embroidery styles of its region. From the delicate white-on-white techniques of Poltava to the bold black relief patterns of Ternopil, every design reflects the unique artistic heritage of Ukrainian folk embroidery.

• Bukovyna embroidery from Chernivtsi featuring rich floral motifs and vibrant colors
• Volyn embroidery from Lutsk recognized for its restrained red and white geometric clarity
• Podillia traditions from Vinnytsia and Khmelnytskyi with strong red and black symbolism
• Polissya patterns from Rivne and Zhytomyr preserving ancient geometric motifs

Each patch transforms these historic traditions into a modern embroidered design inspired by Ukrainian regional symbolism.
